3D modeling of electromagnetic levitation coils

Electromagnetic levitation (EML) enables the handling of samples in a containerless manner, facilitating more precise measurements or manipulation materials. Currently, EML coil design is based on two-dimensional (2D) mathematical models combined with empirical data and experience. We propose that employing truly 3D model accurate rational design. This approach shows significant differences magnetic field, resulting lift heating properties, when comparing 2D coil. A coil, resembling geometry requires current to generate same lift. Reversing situation, producing exact field as has vastly different Furthermore, we show assumption homogeneous axial plane within sample volume invalid, even for small samples, upper lower regions Using model, capable levitating melting an iridium sphere diameter 6 mm.
